Mental Health Support for Your Child
A baby’s earliest days, weeks, and months have a significant impact on how a child learns, grows, and thrives. Research shows that repeated positive experiences during a child’s first three years creates the groundwork for children to thrive in their families and community. Sunbeam therapists are trained to provide high–quality, relationship-focused family therapy services to families with infants and children through age five, including pregnant parents.
Sunbeam therapists are trained to support and focus on building the child-caregiver relationship. A child’s brain development occurs in everyday interactions. Through sessions, your therapist will help you notice and respond to your child’s needs and cues to support connection between you and your child. This will promote regulation of emotions, behavior, and overall well-being. At times, you may meet with your therapist for caregiver-only sessions to empower and equip you to further meet your child’s needs.
For infants, toddlers, and young children, life-long health and well-being is affected when they are exposed to
neglect, toxic stress, trauma, or domestic violence. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) wire a child’s brain to live in a state of constant stress. They influence their brain development, impact their social-emotional skills, and can delay cognitive skills. Not only can this impact childhood, this can have deep impact on mental and physical health outcomes as an adult, the formation of healthy adult relationships, and overall development.
Through years of study, we have learned that even after a child is exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences, there is still hope. You can impact the course of your child’s life through reaching out for support.
