Foster Care FAQs
Is Sunbeam an adoption agency?
Sunbeam is not an adoption agency. We’re here to provide support for children in foster care, with the primary goal of reuniting them with their biological families whenever possible. Sometimes reuniting them with their parents isn’t possible, so we help explore kinship options, like placement with grandparents, aunts, uncles, or other extended family.
Kinship isn’t always possible, though. When a child is in a stable situation with a foster family, and that family is interested in providing a permanent home, our professional team may help advise or facilitate that.
Does Sunbeam support a Kinship home?
Yes, if we have a prior relationship with the family or home and Oklahoma Human Services (OHS) approves a request for support. For the record, kinship foster care is when the foster parents know the child prior to them being in OHS custody and are willing to accept the child as a foster placement.
What does it cost to be a foster parent?
Through a contract with Oklahoma Human Services (OHS), Sunbeam helps you become a foster parent at no cost.
“Our call to be foster parents was not our original path in life, but it was the path that our hearts needed to take. And we’re so thankful we listened to our hearts!”
– Ashley and Brian, Sunbeam Foster Parents
