Sunbeam is one of Oklahoma’s longest-serving nonprofits. Founded in 1907, Sunbeam’s mission is building brighter futures with all children and families.
Your support helps build brighter futures with all children and families. Together, we’re building a stronger, more resilient Oklahoma where all can grow and thrive.
Last year alone, Sunbeam experienced a 58 percent increase in direct service deliveries. This resulted in supporting 6,211 Oklahomans – a 51 percent increase from the previous year.
Children Only Get One Chance at a Head Start
Nobel-winning economist James Heckman emphasizes that high-quality early childhood education is an investment that outperforms even the stock market. Research further shows that nurturing relationships with adult caregivers are essential for building brain connections that support children’s success in health, academics, and social skills.
As an Early Head Start and Head Start provider in Oklahoma County, Sunbeam is a leader in early childhood education. We are dedicated to providing wraparound support for families and helping children through age four grow physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. Sunbeam’s early education centers and Home Visitation Program prepare children from birth to age 4 to enter kindergarten with the skills necessary to be ready for school. Sunbeam enriches enrolled families’ experience by offering wraparound support through its other service areas.

Sunbeam creates a foundation for continued achievement and school readiness by building partnerships among schools, teachers, and families. Because parents are the first and most important teachers, they are involved in every aspect of their child’s learning and development and have opportunities for personal and professional development.
- Family Advocates help families problem-solve, locate resources within the community, and set and achieve goals.
- Through monthly Parent Committee Meetings, families have the opportunity to meet and network with other families to share ideas and engage in discussion about their children’s learning and experiences.
- Families involved in the Policy Council participate in program design to ensure their needs are being met. This includes program goals and objectives, policies and procedures, program monitoring, and program funding proposals.
- The Health Services Advisory Committee and Education Committee provide families with opportunities to assist with the guidance of health-related services and classroom curriculum activities.
- Families are invited to volunteer in their child’s classroom, apply for employment opportunities, join in parent-child interaction activities, and participate in monthly parent education workshops.
- Male/Father Engagement activities are offered monthly to encourage father figures and male family members to be actively involved in their child’s life and development.
