Community Impact

Our counseling program serves as the backbone for Sunbeam’s holistic approach, by providing wrap-around services for clients who have been identified as needing mental health assistance from our other three program areas.

On average, children in Oklahoma are exposed to more ACEs than children in other states. Sunbeam’s Counseling program helps prevent ACEs in parents and their children – and reduce the impact of ACEs.

According to United Way’s 2018 Vital Signs, 63% of central Oklahomans who needed mental health care did not receive treatment due to the high cost. At Sunbeam, cost is never a barrier to receiving supportive and healing mental health care. Sunbeam’s sliding scale Counseling program reduces the cost of a session, which may be free to the client, to guarantee that ability to pay is never a barrier to receiving mental health services.

Last fiscal year:

  • 559 Oklahomans received direct compassionate counseling services, a 25.3% INCREASE from the previous year.
  • 311 individuals received training on a variety of mental health topics.
  • 171 clients also received services through Sunbeam’s other programs.
