Sunbeam Family Services Couseling Staff, Types of Counseling and Areas of Service
Sunbeam's counseling services provide individualized and specialized therapy to people from all stages of life and all areas of the community. Our highly trained, certified professional counselors offer support and acceptance to children, adults of all ages, couples, and families as they face their individual challenges.
Through individual, group, family counseling, school-based, or employee assistance sessions with a Sunbeam therapist, problems are evaluated and together we focus on finding solutions while working to meet personal goals you set for yourself.

Staff
Sunbeam Family Services Counseling staff consists of mental health professionals who provide traditional counseling services based on their professional training, experience, and areas of expertise. Counselors are Licensed, License Eligible, or Master Level Interns who are supervised by Licensed Clinicians. Sunbeam's Counselors are professionally trained in individual, marital, relationship and family therapies. They have the experience and dedication to help individuals and families find solutions that make life more meaningful and satisfying.

Types of Counseling
Sunbeam offers a number of counseling options to meet each client's individual needs.
Individual Sessions - can provide assistance in rebuilding problem solving resources and options.

Group Sessions - involves a small group of people (usually 6-10) who meet together weekly, along with a trained member of the Sunbeam Counseling Center staff, to talk about their struggles and problems. These groups can take a variety of forms. Some focus on a specific topic or problem, while others address a number of different concerns.
- Sunbeam Group Counseling Sessions are offered for a wide range of issues including:
- Anger Management –
Anger Management Group is designed to help participants
better understand and manage experiences of anger.
Adults, 18 and older who are not still in high school,
are welcome to join the group.
Groups meet one evening per week for eight weeks. Each
meeting is one and one-half hours (1.5) hours. If
you're ready to learn how to take control of angry
feelings instead of letting them control you,
Sunbeam's counselors can help. Call the Intake
Office for details.
Group participants will learn and discuss:
- Anger–fueling beliefs and triggers to anger
- Emotions underneath anger; defenses & masks of anger; the different ways we express anger
- Science of anger: cognitive, biological, physiological, neurological, health, and functional aspects of anger
- Personal influences on anger (family of origin, trauma, environment, negative input)
- Costs & Payoffs of anger
- Communication and anger: Low and High Quality Communication styles
- Coping methods, negative and positive
- Values, Pride, Fear, and Forgiveness and how they relate to anger
- Parenting Group - Sunbeam's Parenting Group provides information and practical assistance in an interactive group setting to help parents identify areas needing improvement and build on their strengths.
- Parenting Groups meet one evening per week for eight weeks. Each 1.5 hour meeting is structured to include one hour of instruction and discussion and one hour of experiential activities to integrate learning and development of new skills.

- Communication styles

- Divorce, single-parenting, step parenting
- A variety of other groups are offered to meet the needs within the Community:
- Women's Group

- Divorce/Blended Families Group
- Adolescent Girls Group
- Adolescent Boys Group
- A Couple's Education Group –
For all couples committed to a lasting relationship. This
is a course about all the things that make or break a
couple and how to make your relationship work.
Participants learn about and discuss…
- How to communicate effectively
- What motivates the behaviors in the relationship
- What your feelings tell you about yourself
- How to think more realistically
- How to tell if your relationship is at risk for divorce or separation
- What all the fights are really about
- How to solve the solvable problems and leave the others alone
- What is really at stake with divorce
- Why your health depends on having a good relationship
- Why it is so hard to make good change last
- Many other simple things to improve your relationship
- Lots of other information about relationships that you never knew

Family Sessions - improves the lives of children and families through prevention programs, mental health counseling and support services. Sunbeam believes that a strong family unit provides children with a sense of belonging, a critical sense of value and gives them a vital network for social support.
- Family counseling may be particularly useful for:
- Problems developing in one or more family members which affect all (i.e.:
children's problems, anger, depression in one partner etc.)
- Family or relationship change such as divorce, or children leaving home
- Cultural and ethnic conflict within relationships
- Sexual or cultural differences between the family and the larger community
- Finding the satisfaction you seek in relationships
School-Based Programs - working with school personnel to identify needs and provide small group counseling services to help youth face tough problems and resolve issues that stand in the way of success.
Employee Assistance Programs - providing direct service to companies as an employee benefit. EAP Services address the needs of local companies, both large and small, and provide clinic-based individual and group counseling, assistance to managers and supervisors, and on-site services and educational programs. Sunbeam's EAP is short-term counseling to help employees resolve issues and find solutions to distracting problems in a confidential setting.
