2017 Inaugural Appreciation Luncheon
We were honored to recognize our volunteers who enthusiastically support Sunbeam programs. Volunteer of the Year, Friends of Sunbeam; Ray of Sunshine Award, Catherine Divis; Community Partner of the Year Award, Junior League of Oklahoma City.

Donor Services Volunteer Needed

The Donor Services volunteer is an essential part of the External Relations team. This volunteer position would commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week to help acknowledge donors properly and timely. This function is vitally import to the organization. It helps provide consistency of donor recording, helps promote donor retention and helps ensure timeliness for thanking donors for their gifts.

-The Donor Services Volunteer would assist with all gift entry and acknowledgement processing, as well as maintaining donor records.

-Enter data for all individual and institutional donations and other transaction-related correspondence for donors. Help maintain donor database with edits, correction and additions for donor records.

-Prepare acknowledgment letters for all donations and pledges.

-Route all gifts and pledges to department staff for proper coding, providing additional gift transmittal documents and background information if necessary.

-Work with Director of Development on monthly reconciliation.

-Help provide hand-written notes in response to donations.

-Help provide donor reports and lists for special events and invitation.

Hats Off to Dr. Seuss’s Birthday – Reading Volunteers, Feb. 27-March 3
March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Sunbeam’s early childhood centers celebrate by celebrating reading! We are looking for volunteers who would love to read to students the week of Feb. 27-March 3.

Foster Care In-Service Childcare Volunteers
Come Play with Us! Volunteers are needed to provide childcare during Sunbeam’s Foster Care In-Service Training. While foster parents attend necessary trainings, volunteers rock babies, play games, read to, and spend time with precious children. Sunbeam provides snacks and activities.
Upcoming 2017 Dates: March 2, April 6, May 4, August 8, September 12, and October 10

Reading Buddies, OKC Educare & Tony Reyes Early Childhood Center, October through May
Read a book to a child and help to foster a love for reading while building a consistent, caring relationship. This is a weekly, 30 minute to one-hour commitment October through May and does require a background check.

Shine A Light, April 13, 2017, Downtown Embassy Suites
Sunbeam’s Shine A Light gala is an opportunity to recognize inspiring individuals who have demonstrated Sunbeam’s mission of providing people of all ages with help, hope and opportunity! More than 450 people attend the gala and volunteers are needed to help set up, usher guests, assist photographers, help work the balloon pull and tear down after the event.

OKC Educare Carnival, June 2017
Each spring OKC Educare hosts its annual Children’s Carnival for more than 300 children and parents. Volunteers from our community ensure that the carnival is a memorable experience for the families. Volunteer opportunities include helping with indoor games, serving food and helping with hospitality and parking.

A Very Giving Christmas, December 2017
A Very Giving Christmas is a Christmas Store hosted by Sunbeam Family Services and Catholic Charities. Families are given “Santa Bucks” to spend in the store. Volunteers help set the warm and inviting atmosphere of the store and make the holidays special for more than 600 families in the community who shop in the store. We are looking for greeters, personal shoppers, wrappers and Spanish-speaking interpreters.

Tony Reyes Lunchtime Classroom Volunteers

Tony Reyes Bilingual Child Development Center, 5716 S. Western Avenue, is an Early Head Start program of Sunbeam Family Services. Six volunteers are needed to relieve teachers during lunch breaks daily from 12-2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Volunteers would have the opportunity to help in the classroom by reading to, playing with and rocking children birth to three years old. This volunteer position does require a background check.

Gardeners at OKC Educare
If you find pulling weeds, clearing out vegetable and flower beds to be fun, we need you! OKC Educare has opportunities for gardeners who want to maintain flower beds as well as a large “teaching” garden on the grounds. This work would include weeding, planting and maintaining.

OKC Fall Feast, November 2017
OKC Educare hosts a family-style fall feast for students and their families. We need volunteers to help set up, decorate, serve and clean up. Great opportunity for corporate groups.

Game Night with Seniors, TBA
Spend an evening getting to know a Sunbeam senior while enjoying conversation and games at Sunbeam’s Emergency Senior Shelter.
